Ever feel the ease at holding a mobile phone and do not know that history has been vaguely remembered by most ? Just how amazing has mobile communications contribute to mankind, or to the amazing rapidly growing affluent individuals who can afford one.
Just over 150 years ago Morse invented the telegraph. Some 35 years later Bell invented the telephone. Approximately 15 years after that Marconi demonstrated wireless communications. Today, one picks up a cordless telephone to call across the world via satellite links without a second thought about the accelerating development of information technology. Society has entered the Information Age where the continued development of countries could depend more upon the exchange of information than manufactured goods.
W-CDMA, the solution for a GLOBAL STANDARD (abstract from NTTDoCoMo)
W-CDMA allows data transmission with a quality comparable to that of ISDN. It offers superb characteristics for high-speed transmission of video and large-volume data, which makes it the most suitable solution for the third-generation moble communicastions system. NTT DoCoMo has been actively promoting the basic technology development of W-CDMA, and has conducted high-speed transmission experiments covering video transmission of upt o 2Mbps.
From mobile computing to mobile multimedia
As we approach the 21st century, it is vital to introduce a third-generation mobile communications system (IMT-2000). This system can offer global borderless communications, as well as respond to the need for a range of multimedia services, including voice, still images, and video. Against this background, the ITU is working to establish a standard for IMT-2000, and in Japan, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), the Association of Radio Industries and Business (ARIB), and the Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC) are playing a central role in this standardisation effort. NTT DoCoMo is currently undertaking system tests on W-CDMA, a leading candidate to be the radio technology for IMT-2000, in an open manner, and is calling on a wide range of mobile communications operators the world over to participate in these tests. Many of these companies are taking a very positive attitude toward this participation.
