Synchronisation procedures

Cell search
The UE searches for a cell and determines the downlink scrambling code and common channel frame synchronisation of that cell during the operation of cell search.
Common physical channel synchronisation
After the cell search, the radio frame timing of all common physical channels are determined. During the cell search, the P-CCPCH radio frame timing is found, and the radio frame timing of the entire common physical channel are related to that timing.
DPCCH/DPDCH synchronisation
The synchronisation of the dedicated physical channels can be divided into two cases:
When both the downlink and uplink dedicated physical channels are set up at the same time
Or when a downlink dedicated physical channel shall be set up where there already exists an uplink dedicated physical channel.
No existing uplink dedicated channel
|
For this case, a DPCCH/DPDCH pair shall be set up in both the uplink and downlink, and there exist no uplink DPCCH/DPDCH before. This results when a dedicated physical channel is initially set up on a frequency.
The synchronisation establishment procedures of the dedicated physical channel can be described as below:
The UE starts the downlink synchronisation establishment process while the UTRAN carry out with the transmission of
downlink DPCCH/DPDCHs. DPDCH is transmitted only when there is data to be sent to the UE.
The UE will established chip synchronisation and confirm frame synchronisation based on the CPICH timing and timing
offset information notified from the UTRAN.
If successful frame synchronisation is achieved, UE inform upper layer of frame synchronisation confirmation. Otherwise,
frame synchronisation failure is reported to the higher layers.
The UE start the transmission of uplink DPCCH/DPDCHs at a frame timing exactly To chips after the frame timing of the
receive downlink DPCCH/DPDCH.
The network (UTRAN) establish chip synchronisation and confirm frame synchronisation (using Frame Synchronisation
Word).
Transmission power of downlink channel follow the TPC bits transmitted by the UE uplink.
Inform synchronisation confirmation to upper layer.
